Today (Thu 8th May 2025) marks the 80th anniversary of V-E Day (Victory in Europe Day). There were street parties all across the country including Whittle-le-Woods where one party was by Chorley Old Road across from the Cross Keys Inn.

May Day Whittle Duck Race.
Today’s May Bank Holiday Whittle le-Woods Duck Race had another excellent turn out of spectators . Our 24rd Duck race was blessed with good weather and food stalls including burgers, ice cream van, cake stall, face painting and a long queue for the bar at the Roebuck.
There wasn't much water in the River Lostock so the ducks took longer than usual. The first race at 14:30 was 100 ducks and the second race at 15:10 late start 1,200 ducks.
