Managed to escape to the hills for a few hours. A short walk on the moors above Ilkley, Yorkshire started in sub-zero mist with lots of snow and ice on the ground. Eventually the mist lifted and for a while I was able to see the wonderful Bronze Age carvings on the Badger Stone. They date back to around 2000–700 years BC.

Snowy scene on the Chorley boundary summit of Rivington Road between Belmont and Rivington this morning. It was minus 2deg C. Thankfully I wasn’t on my bike.

This stretch of road is part of the Crieff to Aberfeldy road constructed in 1730.

Today is the longest night / shortest day, the Winter Solstice. I was on Denham Hill at the time for sunrise (08:25) but no luck as it was total cloud and some drizzle.

This evening view was taken from Carwood Lane footpath, Whittle-le-Woods looking towards the Mormon Temple. Above you can just see the flashing lights of a plane passing overhead.
