Kirkburn Iron Age Sword replica |
This evening at Wigan
Archaeological Society we were treated to a presentation by one
of our members. Graham Hanley is a skilled swordsmith and he has
re-made the Kirkburn Iron Age Sword found in 1987 during the
excavation of an Iron Age grave In Kirkburn, Yorkshire. It dates
from the 3rd century BC. He was helping a friend who was
researching a project for his University dissertation. The
original sword is in the British Museum. |

In Chorley Town Hall this afternoon a very special event was
held to commemorate the first meeting of Chorley’s Suffrage
movement on 11th January 1910. After introductions, singing and
speeches a new plaque was unveiled my Chorley's amazing Margaret
Rigby BEM who has been a Girl Guide for over 90 years.
Margaret’s British Empire Medal was awarded to her at the age of
99 for services to the Guides in Lancashire. She is now an
amazing 104 years old. |
