It was nice
to see produce stalls out in Market Street, Chorley.
Unfortunately not many people were buying stuff. I popped into
Allen’s butchers to buy a couple of their excellent burgers.
Properly made sausages and burgers don’t shrink and give off
lots of water like the supermarket kind. |

Water Street, Accrington. Why is this picture here? I'd called
at the Fell and Mountain shop (on the right) to buy a few bits
and pieces and got a feeling of
déjà vu (already seen). I asked
in the shop if this is the street where the firm Karrimor used
to be. It was. The wall, windows and door on the left used to be
part of their office and works.

Had a nice day
out in Cumbria and looked round the remote Church of St
Martin in Martindale. There has been a church on this site for
700 years. The current Church seems to date from the 17th
century. The Pulpit carries the date 1634. |

White Coppice 1909 |

White Coppice 2008 |
| I’ve just got hold
of a copy of the book ‘The Life and Labours of A.E.Eccles.’
published in 1909 In it there is a description by the Rev J.D.
Jones of the first sermon he ever preached in 1902. The photos
were both taken on the site of the sermon near the old mill. |

While walking
through Preston I used a short cut through a car park for some
new flats. I then got a new view of the old Windmill on Crown
Street off Moor Lane. |

Roger Worthington
was buried in unconsecrated ground in 1706. His grave was
refurbished in 1935 and now has two stones, the original and the
1935 remake. It is located on Hawkshaw Lane near Holcombe. |

| This evening Joan
Langford of Farington came to Chorley Historical and
Archaeological Society to talk about the Farington Cotton Mill
Village. Although it was closed in 1972 this photo of some of
the workers helps to keep the memories alive. |

A late flurry of
snow brought a cold picturesque morning to Astley Park, Chorley.
In the distance, to the right of the trees, is the Winter Hill
transmitter mast 9km away. |

An afternoon walk
back home from Clayton Green revealed these recently
reconstructed wooden steps through Green Wood near Cam Lane. |

Something of an impulse walk today. Caught the bus to Blackburn then the
train to Burnley and walked back along the canal towpath. A long day of
over 30 miles.

Lost and derelict industries on the canal. |

Leeds and Liverpool half way point. |

I decided to test
my bus pass validity in Cumbria. The bus driver knew it was
valid but his ticket machine didn't. He gave me a free ticket
anyway. |

From today my bus
pass is supposed to be valid all over England. I used it this
morning for a ride to Preston market. |

My cross-boundary bus ticket. |
