It was a clear night and the
temperature dropped to 4degC. It was clear and starry before sunrise
but clouds began to form at first light. This is my last day and
with a train to catch I was underway by 7am. There was just about
enough light to see as I crossed the rough ground to re-join the
path above Jacob ’s ladder, which is the name for the path. I had to
take extra care as there were plenty of good stones to step on but
they were mostly wet and slippery.

Lee House buildings
There was a nice
stone bridge at the bottom and then a farm track leading to Lee
House and what looked like farm building. A building on the right
was designated an information centre and shelter. I looked inside
and saw some nice signs and pamphlets to take. I collected a couple
for later and continued down the track to some buildings at Upper
Booth. The official Pennine Way route leaves the road here and heads
across fields to Edale. I had less than an houre before my train was
due so decided to take the road way instead as I knew that way I
could speed up and knew exactly where I was going.
I pressed on and
seemed to be at Edale Railway station in no time. The 8:47am train
arrived on time and so did my connection at Manchester Piccadilly
station. I was back in Chorley by 10:20.
