I could see Orion clearly before sunrise but low cloud soon started to move in. I was on my way be 6:50am heading SW to find the first path I could. I soon found one and also a surprisingly good clear spring. The path was wet for a while then started to descend directly down past New Butterworth’s Farm and on to Torra Barn Close, through the housing estate and the main A666 road. I crossed over and took the easy way by following Longworth Road to Belmont. I called in to the Newsagents and grocery shop to see if they had any sandwiches, which they didn’t, so I bought a couple of chocolate bars and continued. Directly across the road is the Belmont Bull pub.

The Belmont Bull.

A deserted White Coppice.

I passed it and continued to the track which follows along Hoar Stones Brow to the summit of Horden Stoops at the road summit. Looking back the way I’d come I had a good view of the Peel Tower above Holcombe and as far as the wind turbines on Scout Moor where I’d been yesterday. They all looked so far away. I turned right to follow the easy path over Will Nar and along Spitler’s Edge to pick up the stone slab path. I was now on very familiar territory and at Great Hill followed directly down to White Coppice where I followed the road home. I didn’t see any walkers all day.
