The 13:47 train to Windermere was 10mins
late but I had enough time in hand at Kendal to make my bus easily.
In fact there was about 50mins to wait for the 13:45 no 106 bus to
Penrith. It was nice to see so many people on and even after we'd
passed through Tebay and Orton there still some in Shap. It was
about 16:50 when I got off the bus at the northernmost bus stop near
the turn off to Shap Abbey.

The large building in the background is not the station.

I set off along the
lane to Keld and even though it was dark there was just enough light
to see by. I walked through the small settlement of Keld but was
surprised to see how few of the houses had light on or any sign of
life. I hope the rest aren’t weekend homes. I crossed over the River
Lowther and continued along the lane up to the concrete road. I'd
planned to spend the night somewhere about here so walked up the
fell a little to find some reasonably flat ground above Keld Gill.
It was quite windy as I pitched the tent and this time I’m in my
Vango tbs micro 100 until I can get the bent polls in my Aztec tent
sorted.
