This is my last day and I had to be up early to set off in time to
catch the 06:20am train from Hastings. It was coming light as I rode
across the grassy sports field and joined the A259 towards Hastings.
As expected it was very quiet and I was soon able to join a cycle
track along the promenade. I reached the Railway Station in good
time and wheeled my bike to the waiting train.
Early morning Hastings
My ticket said to change at London Bridge Rail Station. Today is the
London Marathon Race and London Bridge would have meant crossing the
Thames and route of the race. The ticket man said stay on the train
to Charing Cross and then there was only a couple of miles to
Euston. As we travelled to London several Marathon Runners got on
the train and they got off at London Bridge to make their way to the
start of the race. At Charing Cross the man at the Information Desk
gave me a street map to help with the route to Euston Station.

The
Bonnington Hotel
Cousin Pat, me & my brother in 1959 in Trafalgar Square
It was a pleasant ride along The Strand the along various cycle
routes to Russell Square. I was early and had time to kill so did a
bit of sightseeing on the way. I stopped in Southampton Row to
photograph the Bonnington Hotel. I stayed here in 1959 with my Aunt
and Uncle along with my brother an cousin. We were on a sightseeing
treat to London. I continued to Euston Railway Station for the
10:45am train to Preston which left on time. I had a pleasant and
sunny cycle ride home from Preston and was able to follow the cycle
route through Avenham Park and the old tramway.
