The wind died down through the night
and the morning brought a clear sky. This is my last day and the
weather is on the up, typical. I followed the long straight path
down to Scale Beck were the path continues down the east bank almost
at water level for most of its route. The annoying thing is that the
map shows it on the other side of the river. The final descent was
quite steep but thankfully stone steps had been laid. Through a gate
I joined the path back towards Buttermere. |

Footbridge with Fleetwith Pike in the distance |
It starts off
crossing wet grassy ground then becomes more stony further along. I
was now in warm sunshine as I approached Buttermere and instead of
taking the direct path at the bridge at Buttemere Dubs I continued
to the next bridge just before Buttermere. Here there is a nice
grassy open area by the lake so I wandered along the shore before
joining the main path in to the village. |

I had some time to kill before my bus
so walked up to St James’s Church to have a look inside. I returned
to the bus stop to catch the bus back to Keswick, catching the
clockwise bus via Whinlatter Pass. In Keswick I called in
Needlesport to buy a couple of tent pegs then back to catch the bus
to Penrith. At Penruddock the main A66 was closed due to an accident
at Flusco so we had to divert via Greystoke and Newbigging. At
Penrith Rail station I didn’t have long to wait for my train home. |
