Walking through Preston this morning I managed not to get lost. I wonder if the multiple signs help strangers and tourists?

Late morning out for bike ride round Leyland and on the way back called at Silvesters Farm Food shop, Washington Lane, Euxton to check out what they had for sale. The burgers and sausages looked good and I’ll call back some other time to buy some.

I had a nice clear and fairly calm morning to cycle over the Humber Bridge for the first time. It is the fifth-largest single-span suspension bridge in the world and was opened officially by HM The Queen on 17 July 1981. It was the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world for its first 16 years and remains the world's longest single-span suspension bridge that is open to cyclists. It has a total length of 2,220 metres (7,283 ft) or 1.38 miles

One of the main advantages of travelling by bicycle is that you can stop almost anywhere to take a photo of whatever catches your eye.

I was fortunate to be able to join a group of mining enthusiast to investigate some old abandoned coal mine workings under Winter Hill near Horwich. They were shut down around 1960 but the passage we entered by was cut in the 1890s. I used an LED lamp to make the exposures which were around 10 seconds each. For the group photo everyone had to keep very still, just like at the start of photography.

At St Bede's Club we were treated to a visit from the Canadian duo Madison Violet on their 3rd UK tour. Brenley and Lisa gave a superb performance of their vocal and musical skills.

While walking from Langcliffe to Stainforth I passed through the old quarry area and it's kilns. This massive Hoffmann kiln was built in 1873 for the Craven Lime Company. It had 22 individual burning chambers. Limestone was burned continuously in a circuit around the kiln. It took an average of 6 weeks for one whole circuit. This is the best preserved Hoffmann kiln in England.

Started the new month with a cycle ride via Croston, Southport, Ormskirk and Standish. It’s the first time I’ve cycled over the Marine Way Bridge so stopped to take a couple of snaps.
