There was thick cloud all through the night and as I packed the tent up a bit of very light rain. I set off through the bad visibility but was soon on the descent path towards Base Brown and Seathwaite. By the time I’d descended to the main collection basin for Sourmilk Gill I was below the cloud and had a reasonable view with no rain. But some of the rocks were still wet and the steep descent by the Gill was quite difficult in places due to short pitches of rock. I reached Seathwaite in one piece and soon walked the last bit of road to the bus stop at Seatoller.

Descending to Seathwate.

Approaching Seathwaite from the river.

I was in plenty of time for the bus but had a choice of two. I’d planned to buy a £9 explorer ticket which would get me to Lancaster and the train. But I could go by any route I wanted, so I decided to catch the first bus which was the Honister Rambler. It took my via Buttermere and Crummock Water and was a very picturesque ride. Surprisingly I was the only one on the bus, except for the driver of course. In Keswick I had a bit of time for a look around and enjoying the bit of sun that had started to come out. The 555 bus to Lancaster took over 2 hours then I had another wait at Lancaster railway Station but that was quite pleasant as I sat on my pack in the sun reading my book.
