Another surprisingly calm night, considering the exposed position my tent was pitched in. It was still very hazy so I didn't get a good view of Great Gable at sunrise.

Great Gable at sunrise

Flower memorial by the path.

I set off just after 7am and headed for Kirkfell Tarn then up to the secondary summit. I started the descent of Rib End towards the saddle at Beck Head. The path was mixed but not too difficult. Over half way down was a memorial of plastic flowers but no indication of who it was for. At Beckhead both of the small tarns were completely dry. Not a drop of water was to be seen. I crossed the saddle and a short way up the Great Gable path before turning left for the Stone Cove path. I looked back and saw a lone walker heading up the Kirk Fell path I'd just come down. He must have set off early as it was still only about 7:40am.

Then it was up the loose scree of a path up to Windy Gap. Looking down towards Ennerdale I couldn't see anything through the haze. I turned left and up the short climb to Green Gable. The weather seemed a bit clearer up here, but not below. I was looking for a camp nearby so started to descend into Mitchell Cove where the map shows a water supply. I didn'thave to descend all the way because I found a nice pitch on the northern side of the cove. I carried my waterbag down into the cove and found a nice clear spring. It was still very early but I didn't want to continue further as the bus stop was only a couple of hours ahead.

Last pitch on Green Gable.
