This is my last camp and it was very
wet and windy as I packed the tent up. As yesterday I had to be very
careful on the descent as the ground was very wet and soft. The
first part of the path had been turned into a river by the constant
rain. I was very glad to reach the road on the outskirts of Grange
and have something solid to walk on. The road was also partly
flooded. My next objective was to catch the bus back to Keswick but
as the bus would be passing on its way to Seatoller I decided to
catch the first bus at 09:43 to Seatoller, the opposite way I needed
to go, and then stay on it to return back to Grange then on to
Keswick. |

There is a bus shelter but no seat
inside. It was also flooded inside but I was so glad to have some
shelter as I waited for the bus. It arrived on time and even had
some walkers on it ready to brave the weather. Approaching
Rosthwaite the stretch prone to flooding was already part way
underwater. A couple got off at Rosthwaite, fully clothed in
waterproofs ready for their walk. In Seatoller the bus turned round
and headed back. |

The couple who’d got off at Rosthwaite
were waiting at the bus stop and got back on again. Sensibly they’d
realised the rain was too heavy for an enjoyable walk. When we
reached Keswick the rain had almost stopped as I walked back to the
car.
Once back in the dry of my car I decided to drive home via Honister
and Buttermere. The water was deeper as I approached Rosthwaite but
after that I didn’t have any problems. The wind over Honister Pass
and Newlands Hause was extremely strong. |
