The rain continued steadily through the night but the worst seemed to have missed me. There had been a heck of a lot of rain elsewhere in the county especially Lancashire and Yorkshire. I was packed up and on my way through a dark and drizzly morning at 7am. I was surprised how much water was coming off the fells and filling the ruts in the track to quite a depth. I soon came to a field boundary wall and in the distance I could see something reflecting in my head torch. As I got closer I saw it was a car number plate and it was parked outside Tebaygill. As I passed a man was there walking his dog. The road surface improved to tarmac further down.

Waiting for the train on Kendal Station.

The coaches arrive at Lancaster to take us to Preston.

Ahead were the lights of the vehicles on the M6 motorway and in the near distance the house lights of Tebay village. I crossed a cattle grid and emerged onto the road. Just across the way was the bus stop which was an open fronted shelter and gave welcome shelter from the rain. It was 7:30am and the bus wasn’t due till 8:12 so I just hung around. Soon a few school & college students came and some got on a special school but the rest waited for the 106 bus which turned up almost 20mins late. The fare to Kendal was £1.50. The road was very wet and some standing water washed up the front window of the bus as we passed. The lady driver dropped me off at the Rail Bridge and I walked the short distance to the Railway Station. I’d just missed one train south so had to wait for the next.

At Oxenholme I changed to the train from Glasgow passing through Preston, or so I thought. At Lancaster the train terminated due to the line to Preston being flooded. A fleet of coaches were already waiting and set off on another adventure. Part way down the M6 motorway there was an accident and we just managed to get off before being caught up in the delay. Continuing along the A6 there were further delays due to flooded buildings and volume of traffic. At Preston Railway Station I caught the Chorley train and continued without problems.

In Preston I catch the Train again.
