The forecast wild
night didn't happen. It was a bit breezy when I went to sleep and
when I woke there wasn't a breath of wind and the sky was mostly
clear. This brings me to the general point about weather forecasts.
One of the reasons I'm here, and did a double trek yesterday, is
that the forecast for yesterday was good, and it was terrible. And
today is supposed to be torrential rain and it isn't.
The chimney
One of the flues to the chimney.
If I'd found a
sheltered pitch high on the mountain yesterday I'd have has a sunny
morning to walk off the mountain. To increase the accuracy of
forecasts they could work out what they think the weather is going
to do then broadcast the opposite. With only a couple of miles to
Grassington I'm staying put today. I wasn't short of things to see.
I'm camped in the middle of a wasteland of abandoned mine workings
and I had a look at a complete chimney with a helpful information
board that told me all about in. Nearby was the ruin of a massive
waterwheel house. The day was mostly calm and some rain didn't start
until early evening.
