After a circuitous drive through the lanes of Cumbria I
reached the Greystoke Car Park location shown on Google Maps.
The location turned out to be false so I continued to Millfield
Lodge where I knew there were some parking spaces. The access
was a small gap in the hedge and not marked in any way. It
looked more like the private frontage to the house. Another car
turned up with two people who were dog walkers so I knew I was
OK. The forest is private and only walkers are allowed on the
permissive paths during their opening hours of 8am to 6pm. |

I went through the gate then the garden of the house
(which didn't seem occupied at the moment) then another gate and
up a track. I was then on the forestry tracks which were set out
in straight lines as the ground was relatively flat. With just
long stoned vehicle tracks and pines too high to let the sun
through I just did a loop & returned to the car. |

It wasn't particularly interesting. I then drove to a proper
free car park by the road near Naddles Crags. There were
information boards about the wild life, geology & a rough map to
Eyecott Hill. Nothing was shown on the OS map but OSM (Open
Street map) showed the car park and path. |

It was a pleasant & easy wander by the side of a ploughed field
then a grassy path through limestone outcrops. On the way was a
stone circular wall with nice views and information slabs of the
mountains on the horizon. I was treated to some nice views under
some picturesque clouds. |
