The start of today's walk is from West Tempar but at first I thought I’d have to try and squeeze my car in the patch of grass beneath the old graveyard. it turned out that the patch of grass by the 3 way road junction near Kinloch Rannoch no longer had logs barring the way. So that's where I parked and started my walk. It was overcast and sligh drizzle as I started back along the road to West Tempar.
Hydro electric generator.
Through the farmyard and round the back of the farm buildings is the gate giving access to the track that goes all the way up to the bothy below Geal Charn. A short distance up the track on the right is a small building housing a hydro electricity generator. The water outlet was directly below the building but i couldn't see where the intake came from as 2 rivers went up the hillside and it could have been on either. I wandered steadily upwards with the sharp silhouette of Schiehallion up to my left.

Schiehallion.

The sun was trying to break through behind. Although easy going the track seemed to take quite a while to approach the summit. The bothy I was heading for is at the south end of the summit and not visible until you reach it. The final part of the trail is almost barren rock and doesn’t seem to continue bast the bothy. The first thing I noticed is the new front door which was quite stiff to open.

Today's view inside.

Interior in Feb 2021
The interior was just the smell of fresh cut timber which isn’t surprising as there was a new bunk bed on the left and a large pile of planks cut up for firewood. It was quite windy and felt chilly at just 4degC so decided not to stay to eat something but to continue. There was still a bit of climbing to reach the summit of Geal Charn and its flat rocky summit with 2 cairns.
Looking towards Schehallion.

Bothy by the river.
To the north was a substantial stone shooting butt which I visited then began down the steep heather slope to the west. The heather was deep in places but not too bad. Lower down the ground was very wet and eventually I reached a faint track that took me down by a small river to a building shown on the map. It's a wooden shooting hut and was unlocked. A table inside but no facilities as a bothy. From it lead a substantial track down to the north and towards the road. I wasn’t sure how to make the last connection to the road as the last bit went through what looked like private grounds.
Descending through the trees I reached Dalchosnie where there was an open white gate. Thankfully a track descended to the lower fields before reaching the gate. There were 2 locked gated at either side of the field but they were easily climbed. Then at the road a short walk back to the car.
Bothy interior.
