Due to storm Éowyn being forecast for tomorrow and difficult
driving conditions, I decided to change my planned walk and go
for a shorter and lower walk so I could get back to the car in
time to drive home in the afternoon. Set off around -4degC
overnight and set off just after 6am in the dark and headed
north along the cycle path. The tarmac surface was icy so spent
most of the way on the grass by the edges. |

It was still dark when I reached the left turn down the bank and
under the railway. It was nice to get off the icy tarmac and
follow the track up towards Dhomhain. Fortunately the ford was
shallow and I didn’t need to hop across rocks that would
probably have been icy. Further up the track I turned left to
descend to the bridge over the burn. It was still dark and my
head torch was powerful enough to illuminate the river below.
The track continues up the hillside then becomes a muddy way but
I turned off to the left to descend int the hidden valley that
few visit. No name is marked on the map. It was now coming light
as I climbed higher and it was interesting to see the large
depression where sometimes there is a lake. There was no sign of
it today and not even a tide mark. |

Spenalty for not closing gates £1000 |

Dalnasapidal railway |
Higher up there was just enough daylight to get a couple of
photos. Over the head of the valley summit I carried on over the
other side to follow the shooter's track down to Luidhearnaidh.
It was an easy descent and once on the stoned track I was soon
back at the Dalnaspidal. Railway level crossing. A woman was
driving her car over and I told her to continue as I would close
the vehicle gates. The sign says a £1000 fine for not closing
them. Back at the car I didn’t linger but set off almost
straight away to drive home. I returned the same way I’d come
yesterday. The only stop was at Moffat to collect a steak pie. |
