I drove to Strathanmore where I’d started my walk yesterday. This time I was heading up the opposite side of the glen. It was dark when I set off and initially had a fence to follow to help me find the route. Unfortunately it didn’t last long and was then doing my best to keep on a constant bearing up the hill and into the dark. As the light approached I could see Creag Ruadh ahead. I passed a small cairn as I continued along the ridge and was rewarded with a lovely view of the sunrise. My next summit, Meallan nan Uan, was over a mile away but looked much further due to its extra height.

The morning sun is breaking through

A lovely sunrise
The weather continued fine and it was good underfoot so a pleasant walk. The summit was 838m with a cairn to mark it. I descended to Carnan Fuar which is a minor hill. To the right was very boggy so I went over the top. I could see Sgurr a Choire Rainich in the distance but had a very wet and boggy walk to get there. I was following the contour so didn’t have to do much climbing. I reached the saddle and tuned right to the summit. The views were worth it though the high cloud kept the sun away. I descended straight down the steep southern face and back to the lower saddle. I started the next climb which was a steady walk up past a small loch where I passed on the north side where I had a spectacular view down a steep slope and across to the A823 where I could see the traffic and also the railway to the Kyle of Lochalsh.
Sgur a Mhuilinn whre the trig post
used to be
It was an easy walk on to Sgurr a Mhuilinn summit but I was disappointed that the OS trig pillar shown on the 50K map wasn’t there.  It is interesting to note that it isn’t shown on the 25K map. I could see some of the stones were part of the original column. I continued east and started the descent. It was very steep and took some finding a safe way down to the flats. It took some navigating to get across the many rivulets to join my earlier route up. The descent wasn’t much easier as I continued down to the deer fence I’d followed up in the dark. It was warm and sunny when I got back to the car.
A bit of trig post
