King Charles 1 1600 - 1649
Charles is pictured with his wife Henrietta Maria, and their sons Charles (left), and James.
Both became kings, as Charles 11 (1660 – 85), and James11 (1685 – 88).
Though Charles never came to Astley Hall, the portrait illustrates the royalist allegiance of the Charnocks during the Civil Wars (1642 – 51).
Charles was executed by Parliament in 1649.

Katherine Townley - Townley Parker.
Married Thomas Townley - Townley - Parker in 1846
She was the youngest daughter of Reverend Thomas Blackburne Rector of Prestwich.

Captain Robert Charnock 1604 – 1653
Married firstly Anne Lougher his second wife was Alice Farington 4th daughter of William Farington of Worden married 1648
Robert became a Royalist Captain in the Civil War. He lost an eye siege of Latham and his lands as a result, having to pay a large fine to recover latter.
Look closely at Roberts eyes in this portrait evidently painted after the siege of Latham the artist gave him an eye can you spot which eye.
He inherited Astley briefly from his father, but died without a male issue in 1653. His daughter and heiress, Margaret, married Richard Brooke of Mere in Cheshire 1665 / 1666.

Anne came from Royle Hall, Burnley . Married Robert Parker Cuerden Hall
In this portrait you can see the arms of the Parker, Townley and Clayton families Anne’s mother was the daughter William Clayton of Fulwood.

Robert Townley - Parker 1793 – 1879
Born at Cuerden Hall. Married Harriet youngest daughter of Thomas Brooke of Church Minshull, Chester 1816
Robert was High Sheriff of Lancashire 1817, Deputy Lieutenant, M.P. for Preston twice and Guild Mayor in 1862
Inscribed on the reverse of this portrait 1875 after a miniature by Hargreaves 1810
